🌴 Krabi (Ao Nang) in your trip?
Add it in the trip planner →For each activity you get up-to-date availability and prices — so you book ahead at the best rate.
Krabi has its own airport with direct flights from Bangkok and beyond, and it links to Phuket by road (about 3 hours) or Phi Phi and Lanta by ferry. Ao Nang is the main hub; from its beach, longtail boats shuttle constantly to Railay (about 100-150 baht, roughly 15 minutes) since Railay has no road access. Around Ao Nang, songthaews and Grab handle short trips; renting a scooter opens up the hot springs and inland sights.
Ao Nang is the practical base - the widest range of hotels, restaurants and tour desks, and boats to everywhere. For a car-free, cliff-framed escape, stay on Railay itself: West Railay for the postcard beach and resorts, East Railay for cheaper rooms (mangrove-side, not for swimming), and the backpacker bungalows and rock-climbing crowd around Tonsai. Krabi Town, inland, is cheaper and more local but away from the beaches.
Railay is world-famous for rock climbing - beginner courses are easy to arrange - with soft sand and the hidden Phra Nang cave beach. The classic Four Islands tour by longtail loops Poda, Chicken Island and the Tup sandbar you can walk across at low tide. Inland, cool off in the Emerald Pool and neighbouring hot springs, and the fit can grind up the Tiger Cave Temple's 1,237 steps for a 360-degree view.
Ao Nang's beachfront promenade is lined with restaurants and a small night market - fresh seafood, Thai staples and plenty of Western comfort food for the resort crowd. Nightlife is gentle: beach bars, a few live-music spots and fire shows at Railay, rather than clubbing. Time dinner for sunset over the cliffs and you have the perfect Krabi evening.
